Strategic management is the art and science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its objectives. It is the process of specifying the organization's objectives, developing policies and plans to achieve these objectives, and allocating resources to implement the policies and plans to achieve the organization's objectives.The institute is chaired by Kathrin Hamm. The institute currently offers the course Basics of Management. This course deals with the Integrative Change Management Concept.

Course content

Module 1: Understanding Management

This module aims to define management and to learn about the principle of transforming resources in value as well as to understand how changing environmental conditions such as complexity affect the management of businesses.

Module 2: Case Study, Brazil city Curitiba

Application and reflection of a successful model of a city and the relevance and assignability to management.

Module 3: The concept of integrative change management

Introduction of the concept of structuring and solving problems in the first part. The second part explains how to deal with the complex business environment and the business system we are operating as business managers.

Module 4: Integrative Change Management: Strategy 1

Strategy 1 gives a detailed perspective on the strategy process and the tools that can be applied in everyday business life. When strategy is defined, we will proceed to discuss the development of the strategic planning process.

Module 5: Integrative Change Management: Strategy 2

Strategy 2 focuses on strategic options, the evaluation of strategic options, and the development as well as formulation of the chosen strategy.

Module 6: Integrative Change Management: Organizational Structure

This module deals with the theories as to how company divisions and its associated companies can be structured and set up. The focus thereby lies on the functional structure, the multidivisional structure and the holding structure.

Module 7: Integrative Change Management: Structure 2

The second part on structure discusses the matrix structure and the innovative organization structure. It includes a closing part about today’s understanding of organizational culture and conflicts that can occur within those structures.

Module 8: Integrative Change Management: Corporate Culture

This module aims to describe corporate culture and give some theories and the principles of cultural change.

Module 9: Integrative Change Management: Corporate Culture 2

The second part on corporate culture deals with the new understanding of leadership as well as frameworks as to how culture can be analysed and the energy for change generated.

Module 10: Case Study

The last module aims to audit and to train analyzing and development skills for business companies in the context of integrative change concept.
